So what is infra red and how does it work?

Well we'll will give you the abridged version as It can get quite complicated.

Basically, infra red is a form of radiation (IR or infra red radiation, so itís safe). It has a wavelength which is shorter than radio waves but longer than visible light and it heats the body by radiant heat (imagine lying on a beach sunbathing, the heat you feel is radiant heat from the sun and an infra red sauna produces similar radiant heat (just without the harmful ultra-violet rays so it won't burn your skin).

The radiant heat in the infrared sauna warms you but not the air around you making it very efficient. It's also very safe (most hospitals use infra red heaters to keep premature babies warm).

The radiant heat waves from your infra-red sauna penetrates your body by around one and a half inches and makes you sweat more than a traditional sauna (around twice as much), helping you detoxify by getting rid of heavy metals in your system. Sweating also helps unblock clogged up pores and can reduce acne as well as help with weight loss.

Once built (around 60 minutes), using your sauna couldn't be easier as all you have to do is plug it in and turn it on. Once you are ready to get in we would suggest folding a towel to sit on (to catch any sweat) and then just relax and enjoy yourself for 20-30 minutes. Once you're done all you need to do is remove your towel and wipe up any sweat before you leave. We do NOT recommend using any chemical cleaners to clean your sauna, as any residue left will give off fumes the next time you heat your sauna, after all you're trying to detox chemicals out of your system, not absorb them.

We have a full range of infra-red saunas available in many sizes from one person units to 4 person in-door or out-door units.

Will They Help Me Lose Weight?

This is a question we get asked all the time and the simple answer is yes (believe it or not). You could lose around 4lbs in a typical 30 minute session but bear in mind you are losing fluid so a lot of that weight is lost fluids. That is why we recommend you should drink at least 2 glasses of water every 15 minutes while in your sauna (dehydration is dangerous). The good news is that you raise your metabolism while you sweat in the heat of an infra red sauna and this burns calories which means weight loss (while sitting on your backside)! Various specialists estimate you can burn up to 600 calories in a 30 minute session in your IR sauna (equivalent to 60 minutes jogging and more than 60 min of playing tennis).

Even if you struggle to lose weight the traditional way (exercise and diet) infra red saunas can help as many health professionals point at imbalances of toxins etc. within your body as being the cause of this. IR saunas can help rectify any imbalances they help you to detoxify and get rid of those nasty heavy metals and impurities which can make it hard to lose weight. The added benefit is your skin appearance and circulation will also improve.

The main benefits of infra red over traditional saunas are:

  • Cheaper to buy.
  • Cheaper to run and maintain.
  • Operate at a lower temperature.
  • Has more health benefits.
  • Easier to assemble and disassemble.
  • Easier to clean.

We supply and deliver our saunas all over Ireland (north and south).  Please take a look at the various sections throughout our site and feel free to ask us any questions you may have (there's no such thing as a silly question) by either calling us or using our contact us page.
